Pardon parle espagnol.

(Thanks to Amancio Reino Pampin for the English translation)
(Excuse me, but I only speak Spanish.
I think the best album is Clair-obscur. The best voice and the best tracks. She must go on working, to make us live more unforgettable moments. I follow her career since 1962 (I was a child, only 12 years old). I will always be relaxing and dreaming with her music.)

Hello Agustin. Thank you for your message. I see that you like "Clair-obscur". :-) You must be just a little younger than me. I first heard Françoise in 1964 when I was 16. Good luck for 2002.

(Hola Agustin. Thank you Babelfish!

Samuel-Louis Bandy, Jr. (from Illinois, USA) visited on Thursday, December 6, 2001 and said: -

I first heard Ms. Hardy's beautiful singing style while visiting Canada. (While in Canada, I try to listen to French whenever possible; however, I do not read and write it well as I moved to Illinois as a child prior to starting school).
I really like her vocalizations and can understand why her career has spanned more than four decades. This woman knows how to sing to average persons like me.

Hello Samuel. Thank you for your message. I started learning French many years ago at school when I was 12. I found it a very beautiful language to listen to, and the fascination increased when I discovered Françoise a few years later. I still enjoy just listening to the sound of Françoise singing in French, even without trying to understand the words. It is difficult to explain this attraction to a native French person.

Brenda Prentiss (from USA) visited on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 and said: -

It's so wonderful to get information about Francoise Hardy. I have been a fan of hers for many years, enjoying several of her very popular albums that I have been fortunate enough to obtain here in the USA. I have always thought she had outstanding good looks, and, after seeing updated pictures of her on this website, I can see that she definitely has NOT lost those gorgeous good looks! Thank you for putting out such an informative and creative website for people like me!

Thank you for your message, and your comments on my site. It's good to know that you can find Françoise's albums in USA. I can confirm that Françoise has not lost any of her gorgeous looks, having been lucky enough to meet her twice in 2000. I was on cloud nine, as I'm sure you can imagine!

Henrik Påhle (from Sweden) visited on Saturday, December 1, 2001 and said: -

Fantastic!
This site has everything! Photos, lyrics, discography etc...I´ve been a Hardy fan for six years and the addiction's getting stronger.
Till alla svenska Francoise Hardyfans, varför inte ett FH konvent eller fanmöte i Sverige nån gång? Och sen borde vi jobba på att få hit Francoise för ett konsertframträdande. Det vore väl mumma?

I speak no Swedish at all, but this is my attempt at a translation. Any offers of help accepted

(To all Swedish fans, why not a Françoise Hardy convention or fan meeting in Sweden some time? And then should we not get Françoise here for a concert appearance? Farewell.)

An excellent idea to try an arrange a fan meeting in Sweden. Good luck with your attempt to get Françoise to perform at a concert. If you succeed, let me know, please I would like to be there too!
You can contact Henrik Påhle at .

Since I listened to Francoise's songs, I loved them. I'm 16 and the first song I've heard was "Ma jeunesse fout le camp", from the TV show "La Femme Nikita" (yeah, that's exactly why I have that email address:). I fell in love with that wonderful song!!! She has a great voice!
Congrats for this page, it's amazing!
A lot of kisses,
Yan

Hello Yanina. Thank you for your message and your comments on the site. It's just amazing the number of different ways people discover the music of Françoise Hardy. I've never seen the TV show, but I've heard from a few people who have been touched by "Ma jeunesse fout le camp" having first heard it on the TV show.

Hello Jaime. British people want Françoise to sing here in Great Britain too, but unfortunately, both possibilities are EXTREMELY unlikely. But we can always hope...

Gracias. Fernando

She was a great presence in celebrations in my twenties and her songs were companions of very good moments. At the cinema I enjoyed "Masculine, feminine" and "Grand Prix". Today I feel happy to have found this page that allows me to have contact all her fans and especially with she herself. It cheers me to know about a full and happy present of successes, both personally and artistically, and wanted to have among my memories an e-mail relating to the present. I have already printed the collection of photos from the gallery and proudly shown them to eighteen-year-old youths, showing them that unique beauties existed in my time. Thanks.)

Francoise was my only companion on those lonely nights at college in the mid 60's. She captured my heart with her songs and with her music. I was able to meet her very briefly in 1969 when I visited France. She was even more beautiful and wonderful in person. When they talk about stars she is the star of the 20th century.
Thank you for a great site

Hello to all:
I wrote earlier this year; I am writing again to say I was surprised to discover a French vinyl issue of Clair-Obscur two weeks ago. Sales of the recording must have been good to warrant a vinyl release along with the cd. Now I can enjoy Clair-Obscur in either format.

Patrick Morne (from Paris, France) visited on Monday, August 27, 2001 and said: -

I met Françoise in "privacy" in november 1963. I used to live in London, then and, one saturday I was in Paris, I went to the "Olympia" music-hall, where she opened Richard Anthony's show as "Vedette Américaine", as we say.
I left at the end of the 1st part and I ran outside to the artist's exit. She came out, alone, fragile, very touching indeed, and... I didn't know what to say to her. So, she did most of the talking, signed a book which had just been published about her "Je chante, donc je suis", and told me it was just a lot of rubbish. That was Françoise! I will never forget her beauty and those precious minutes spent with her alone. I was 18 and she was 19... a long time ago...

Hello Patrick, thank you for your interesting story. I have a copy of this book, but have never completed reading it, so cannot comment as to whether it is a lot of rubbish. I see Françoise was outspoken even then.

Shaun (from Birmingham, England) visited on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 and said: -

Safe, I'm 17, like and I got into Francoise cos I saw some photos of her from the sixties and thought she were the fittest woman I've ever seen. Then I got this CD of hers out the local library (Les Chansons D'Amour) and things like Ce Petit Coeur made me go weak at the knees n'all that and now I seem to constantly be playing La Maison Ou J'ai Grandi and Voila which are two of me favourite songs ever. She's got such a beautiful voice and I haven't heard none of her new stuff but I'm happy with what I've got. I'm in this band and when we make it (!) I'd love to do a song with her cos she's great (although she looked better with long hair and I don't really like older women being a mere teenager) but that's all superficial innit? I love her anyway. And I still think she (c.1966) is the fittest woman ever - and the best female artist/singer ever too. So there!

Hello Shaun. Fascinating! This takes me back to when I was your age, more than 35 years ago, when I first discovered Françoise, and felt about her just as you describe. I'm sure you will enjoy discovering more and more of Françoise's songs. Good luck with your band, and you never know, one day...

Alejandro (from Chile) visited on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 and said: -

Hi from South America,
It was so hard for me to know who was the sweet voice that I heard in one of the La Femme Nikita chapters... but I am here... she sounds so incredible. I can't believe that someone have such beautiful voice... I am sorry that I knew you so late... I will begin the next weekend buying some CDs that could be available here...
Could you tell me the name of the album where "Ma Jeunesse fout la camp" appears.
Thanks for this nice site and good luck!
Alejandro

Hello Alejandro, welcome to the world of Françoise Hardy. "Ma jeunesse fout la camp" was originally released in 1967 on an LP of the same name. It has been re-released several times since on CD, the most recent being last year. The song has also appeared on many compilation CDs, many of which should still be available.

Merci beaucoup!! J'apprecie les paroles des chansons aussi!!

(Hello, I will write in French! I am a French teacher who fell in love with the music of Francoise Hardy at the age of 16, in the state of New Jersey. This week I will presenting to students at Portland State University, as part of the course of the second year of French, the song "Je changerais d'avis" not just because she is splendid, but also because it is perfect to give examples of conditional propositions with 'si'!! What I also appreciate is that Francoise pronounces the words so clearly; that helped me to appreciate her music and to pronounce this beautiful language well!
I found the "3 Cd Box", the collection of CDs of Francoise in Paris two years ago and I was ecstatic!; it was very nostalgic to discover my "idol", part of my youth! Your site is extra! Thank you very much!! I appreciate the words of the songs too!!
With sincere friendship,
Lyn (Madeleine) Grigonis)

Hello Lyn, thank you for your message and your comments on the site. I hope my translation is not too inaccurate. It's interesting to hear, yet again, that the songs of Françoise are being used to help people learn French. What a lovely way to learn! Perhaps some of your students will become fans themselves.

ALAIN ROBERT (from ST-HUBERT, QUÉBEC, Canada) visited on Friday, August 17, 2001 and said: -

I was wondering if FRANCOISE being as you know an astrology freak has read the lines of your life. FRANCOISE has often stated that because she is a capricorn, she is a sad person in life. One thing is sure is that she is a deeply private person. This is the reason she always found touring around the world a difficult thing to do. She is one of the few artists who while still recording refuses to do live shows. Your site was one of the first i consulted when i connected to the intrenet two years ago, and i still visit once a month.

Hello Alain, thank you for your message. No, Françoise has not read my lifeline. It is true that Françoise is a very private person, and for this reason, I prefer not to intrude upon her life, but to worship from afar. The lack of live performances by Françoise is perhaps a little disappointing for the many of us who have never seen her, but at least we have the promise of a new album every few years.

One of her songs greatly influenced me to keep my life and i dont know why? The song name is Ma Jeneusse fout la camp. i would love to know what it means because for 7 months now i have been un happy with my life and at one point(many actually) ready to end my life and came very close to it, but something in her voice, in this song kept me going. I lost my dearest love erica and for nights afterwards all i played was this song, i have found one girl now jessica but still my heart cries out in pain and agony when i hear her song because it reminds me of the love i had and reminds me that i am alive and doing better, if any of you know the english translation please for heavens sake please e-mail me. Listen to what your heart says when you hear her voice in that song what do you think of? ALthafain8 thats my instant messager name for aol you are welcome to come share your opinions just drop me a line and say who you are and if you ever decide that life isnt worth living, i really understand, i would be happy to hear your stories because if i can help you then i will, thank you Francoise Hardy i owe my life to you.

Hello Bobby, Thank you for your message and your interest in my site.
First of all, let me beg you to not end your life. I know from experience that life can be unbearable at times, but there is always something in the future which will help to make it more bearable.
A translation of this song appeared in July 1999 on the News group alt.fan.la-femme.nikita after the song was used in the TV programme "La femme Nikita".
I have added this translation to my site (with only a few minor changes) because it is better than I could have done myself. It can be reached from the page containing the text of the French song, or by clicking here.
One comment I would make is that the translation of the phrase "fout le camp" is perhaps a little mild. According to my dictionary, "foutre le camp" translates as "b*gger off" or "get the hell out of here". This may, however, spoil the beauty of the song.

I'm discovering just now this beautiful voice. I only knew "comment.." by J. Sommerville but, let me say that Francoise has much more style! And what about the italian version "Il Pretesto"? It's simply... glamorous!
Yours is the best site about her and it's my favourite info source as I'm new here and I have a lot to learn about Francoise.
Ciao. Claudio

Hello Claudio, Thank you for your kind comments, and welcome to the world of Françoise Hardy. The words of "Il Pretesto" obviously mean a lot more to you than they do to me, but the song certainly sounds very nice!

If you want to see our beloved Hardy with the Rolling Stones enter my page http://perso.wanadoo.es/stone1 and then click in Stones' pics. You´ll see 3 greats pictures. I think these pics are taken by JM Perier.
A bientôt. Roberto

Hello Roberto, Thank you for your message. There have been a few CDs featuring German or Italian songs which should still be available. Watch out too for a CD ("Frag' den Abendwind"), released in Germany at the beginning of September, which includes 13 tracks in German and 13 tracks in French.

I first bathed myself in Françoise Hardy songs when I was 17. I am now a teacher of French and have actually used her songs for dictation with advanced students, because her enunciation is so clear. I really appreciate your site, because the lyrics don't always come with the CD and it saves me a lot of typing.

Hello Jay, thank you for your message. What an excellent way to introduce people to Françoise Hardy! I'm glad you find the lyrics useful, but be careful. Although some of them have come from official sources, others haven't and there will be some inaccuracies.

Michael de Souza (from Australia) visited on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 and said: -

Back in 1969 I bought one of her LP record in Brazil. Then at that time French songs were very very popular. As soon as a popular song was released in France almost immediately was also released in Brazil. That particular LP record I still have it today.
And I loved the songs. Françoise Hardy was one of my favoured. At the age of 21 I moved to Australia and I lost contact with French songs as in here and then, unfortunately is only English songs.
But now thanks to the Internet, I can get to know more about Françoise Hardy and others.
Johnny Hallyday and Christophe also continue being my favoured singers. I just love French songs and my dream still is to go to France and get to know all of you personally.
There is a day for everything, I guess, and that day awaits me.
Love all,
Michael de Souza

Hello Michael, thank you for your message. Yes, French music seems to be popular in South America, and particularly in Brazil. Françoise appeared at a Song Festival in Rio de Janeiro in 1968, and her favourite album "La question" was made in collaboration with Tuca from Brazil. Good luck in your search for music, and I hope you make it to France one day.

Nice site, interesting infos, but not the one I am looking for: how is it possible to send a written message for Francoise Hardy? E-mail address? Fan club? Secretary?
Thanks for helping.

Hello David. Unfortunately, I know no way that you can communicate directly with Françoise. There is a contact e-mail address on the official web site - www.francoise-hardy.com - but I do not know where it goes. Another possible way would be to write to Françoise's record company, Virgin.

Love Françoise Hardy and this site! I am actually a teacher and one of my subjects is French. At the moment I work for the Schools of Isolated and Distance Education in Western Australia and I am writing teaching/learning materials for French students. In our Integrated Studies/Music module, I am looking at a song by the Avalanches (an Australian band) who have used bits of Françoise's song "Oh oh chéri". I would like to get permission to use both the French lyrics and the song. This will be for educational purposes only. It is hard to work out where to go with this request and I hope that you can help me. Copyright clearance is required for all our materials before they go to print. Please get in touch with me as soon as possible. Also I would like to use the photo of Françoise with Mick Jagger (or Bob Dylan). Hope to hear from you soon,
Johanna Rekelhof

Thank you for your message and your interest in my site.
I have no permission for anything that appears on my web site, and it is free for all to take. I think this is the way of things with most of the internet.
Both Françoise herself and her current record company (Virgin, France) are aware of this site, and in fact Virgin asked to take some of my information for their official web site. So, you can take what you like, but it is nice of you to ask - many don't.
I have several original pieces of sheet music of Françoise's songs, and some song books, but "Oh, oh chéri" does not seem to be amongst them. I cannot remember now from where the lyrics came. Most of the early pieces of sheet music were issued by "Alpha", so it could be the same. There is no copyright shown on the early French records, but on the first LP release in England, "Oh, oh chéri" is shown as "Rogers".
On the sheet music (1962 to 1964), the address for "Alpha" is 54 rue d'Hauteville, Paris 10, but I doubt very much whether they still exist.
I cannot remember either from where I got the photographs of Françoise with Jagger and Dylan, but probably from a magazine or book. The most frequent photographer of Françoise at the time was Jean-Marie Périer, her boyfriend. I know he is still on the scene, but I have no contact details for him.
All of which is not very much use to you I'm afraid, but good luck with your teaching.

It was 14 years ago. I bought her album called "FRANCOISE". God bless the day I found her. She is my icon. I can't stop talking about her. My favorite song is "Qui peut dire?", "Je ne suis la pour personne", "Tout ce qu'on dit", "L'anamour"... and "La question" album is a pure Francoise Hardy album. Beautiful pictures everywhere! Thanks for your great web page!

Hello Keiichi. K, thank you for your comments, and welcome to my site. Some very nice songs you list, and "La Question" is also the favourite of Françoise herself.

I bought my first Francoise Hardy album, Star, in 1980; it was from curiosity because the album included a version of the Janis Ian song, Stars. The album was wonderful and I have been listening to Mlle Hardy's music since. Her releases sell quickly in the Chicago area, but I have never met a fan. The day I bought Decalages, the cashier said, "Oh, someone else bought this an hour ago." Thank you for an outstanding website and best wishes.

Hello Michael. "Star" is one of my long time favourites too, but it was not until later that I heard the original. When I see Françoise's CDs disappearing from the local shops I always wonder who is buying them. It was only after I started this web site that I discovered that I was not alone. It has brought me into contact with many fans, and what a great crowd they are.

just to let you know that v.shops have approx 27 Françoise albums orderable through their kiosks, for anyone having trouble finding any. i've just ordered clair-obscur very easily-hitherto tricky in Chelmsford. how about a trip based around "the paris of Françoise Hardy"? venues played, places lived etc. maybe a bit clichéd, but could be very enjoyable and interesting nevertheless.

Hello again Andy. Thank you for the information about V.Shops. I will have a look in my local store. Strangely enough, there are 27 CDs shown as available on www.hmv.co.uk. I wonder if they are the same ones.
Thank you too for the suggestion about a theme for a meeting of fans in Paris. I have some of the information required, and I'm sure more could be found with the help of resident fans.

You are right about Clair Obscur, it has grown on my more every day, and though I will always love Le Danger and Decalages, Clair Obscur is better than either. I have a question that I'm sure someone here can answer (you can e-mail me at if you have it). I was lucky enough to find (at a flea market in Kentucky!!) Discs 2 and 4 of L'Integrales disques Vogues, but no 1 and 3. Could someone tell me the track listings (as with all the re-releases I suspect I have all the tracks).

Hello again Don. L'Intégrale Disques Vogue box set is one of the items I am still looking for. There is a full track listing on Georg's discography site. Look under 1995, CD (4). It doesn't tell you which songs are on which CD, but you may not need to know that.

I first heard Françoise Hardy in early 1963 while I was in the U.S. Navy serving on board the U.S.S. Albany CG-10 on a tour of the Med. I was fortunate enough to have bought several 45-RPM records during that time. Among the songs I bought were: Pourtant tu M'Aimes, On Se Quitte Toujours, J'suis d'accord and of course Tous Les Garcons Et Les Filles. Now here I am so many years and I have discovered her once again. So you might say that I am one of her most loyal fans. After all I was there when she started. By the way, I still have the records.

Hello Harold. Thank you for your message. I cannot claim to have been a fan for as long as you. My introduction to Françoise was in 1964 with "Only friends", but I caught up with what I had missed very quickly! I too still have all the original records I bought in the 1960s, many worn out now, but still treasures. Maybe you have some catching up to do now, having just re-discovered Françoise.

hi Warren and happy new year! i've just got round to buying le danger and can't stop playing it. it has some truly awesome moments that people like coldplay would die for! up until recently, la question was my personal favourite of Françoise's, but it now has stiff competition! having read a few messages from other people of excellent taste, it seems to me that virgin should be heavily petitioned to make more of Françoise's material available, especially on video. maybe we should band together and see what can be done! also, have you considered getting a British convention organised? it would be good to meet some other fans of Françoise. finally, a rather nice album to check out is princesses nubians by les nubians. although not connected to Françoise at all, it has a nice vibe, not dissimilar to some of Françoise's work, although sounding a bit different!? (i know what i mean really!)
keep up the good work on a superb and enjoyable site. à plus tard!

Hello Andy. I'm glad you like "Le Danger". Do you have "Clair-obscur" yet? You were certainly in good company having "La Question" as your favourite - that is Françoise's favourite too. There seem to be more and more people asking about videos, so maybe now is the time to talk to Virgin. Yes, a British convention has been suggested previously, but we need some ideas as to what might interest people. Another European meeting has also been suggested recently. What might attract you to go to Europe, apart from the obvious - I don't know if Françoise herself could be persuaded to attend. I do not know of Les Nubians, but I will certainly listen out for them.

We have many of your records and enjoy listening to them so much. My husband introduced me to your music after we were married in 1972. We get the French news over here and we were lucky enough to see you on there one evening. We are so glad you have your own website and look forward to listening to more and more of your music.

Hello Robert and Betty. Thank you for your message, and welcome to my site. I'm sure Françoise's would be very happy that you enjoy her music. I expect you have the same problem getting hold of her CDs as I do here in England, but good luck.
