I first heard your music in the 60's because next door to my house in Dublin, there was a boarding house which housed many students during the summer of all nationalities but in particularly europeans, the majority being french people. We had no other way to get to know other europeans as very few irish travelled abroad in the 60's but I & my brother always loved your music. Many years passed and I hadn't heard of you until recently. I now live 60 KM outside of Dublin and a new french restaurant has opened up here in Kildare where I now live and one night with a group of friends, I heard this music and felt a blast from the past and upon enquiring was shown a CD of yours which could not be acquired in Ireland. I am now attempting to purchase this CD through the internet. Thank you for this very enjoyable sound from my past. From Deirdre Hughes, Newbridge. Kildare, Ireland
Hello Deirdre. Most of the CDs Françoise has released are still available, and you should have no trouble finding them on the Internet.

Hello
My name is Elly, and I have a question that has been bothering me for a long time.
I was born in 1988 in Russia and lived there till I was 10. Me and my sister used to watch this show (I dont know the name of it in English but if I translate the title as to how it is in Russian it would be) called 'Ellen and friends' (that might be completely off). The theme song to it was Tous les garçons et les filles, I was wondering if you knew the name of the TV show that I am refering to.

I wish you all the best... If we could only return to those great years...
Take care,

Ciao Francoise, mi chiamo Tonia e ho 10 anni.
P.S. W FRANCOISE W !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TONIA

Querida Francoise: Hace poco que he empezado a conocer tu música. Gracias y muchos besos.

Hello everyone. Bonjour bonsoir! I've become a collector of Francoise's records in recent years ever since I came across an abandoned copy of Message Personnel at my in-laws' house in Japan and was curious enough to play it. What a revelation. Merveilleux! Then I bought two Vogue best of cassette tapes for the car and I have never looked back.
I've just bought a copy of Entr'acte which I found in a second hand record shop in Brussels (a good source for FH vinyl). Curiously there are no musician credits on the gatefold sleeve anywhere so I wonder if there was orginally an insert with the recording details. If so, do any of you guys have a copy and so could let me have the details or a scan of it?
I'm very curious to know more about this record which I see some critics laud as one her best.
Kind regards

I first hear Francoise on a record which was played on a party at my cousins house. It included various singers. Very strange LP, never seen it since. The cover had some couples dancing, and I have no idea who the other singers were. I just remember that one was "Tous les Garcons et les Filles", and I felt I had died and reborn again. The record belonged to a friend of my cousin, she picked it up two days later. But in that period I kept listening to it (just that song) for about 10 hours in a row, both days. ( yes, I am crazy, and I was crazy mad about that song).
Then I went out to search for that song and I found a Mexican LP (Mainly songs from her first album). My mother spoke French, so I asked her to write the lyrics for me. My first approach to French was that. From then on I went into looking for records of her, I have found from Brazil, the US and so on.
I got to study French because of her. So many nights I sat alone singing with my guitar her songs in French and English. I blew my mind when I heard her 2 songs in Spanish.
She has been my Godess all this years. When I first got into the www, in 2004, the first thing I found was your page, it sure is great to find people like you.
Best Wishes

What a great site I have discovered you have here. I became familiar with Ms. Hardy's songs while in college in the mid eighties. Later on I moved to South America and lost track of her music. I am back in the States but her music is hard to find in stores around. Thanks for the music section in your web, it will allow me to get to know her repertoire better. Is Ms. Hardy still involved in the music business, writing songs or singing herself? Please keep us posted and thanks again, S. Sam

I was always fond of listening to the songs of late 60s and I still like to listen to them. The most I like in French are Françoise's. I am so glad to find this site and as I am watching the photos, I go back to those years again.
If I can receive an answer from Françoise to this message personally, I'll be so happy.
With my best wishes to her.
Regards, Murat.

Salut Francoise.
LGB.

I have recently been introduced to the music of Francoise Hardy through a friend of mine. I am a huge fan now in such a short time. I have listened to her music non-stop, at work, in my car, at home.
I think she is beautiful and has an angelic voice.
I wish that we here in the states were given the opportunity to hear European artists. If so, I would have had many more years of enjoying Francoise's music.
But better late than never.
I will always be a huge fan.
Thanks

I first discovered Hardy's music in 1970 when I was a student in Rome. I loved her meloncholy songs and really flipped in 1977 with the release of STAR with the hauntingly and beautiful music and lyrics. Only woman I have ever actually been in love with, that I have never met.

Bon soir! Do forgive me for my very poor Français. That's why I must write in this Goddamned English language. In fact I have learnt the beautiful Française language in the 60s, for just 2 years. I was happy then.
Now: Would you mind telling me the name of Françoise song which is shown at the end of the Canadian film "Les Invasions Barbares" (I'm afraid I wrote it the wrong way).
We can not find any Françoise CD in Brasil. Would you boys tell me how to get it at the Web? Merci!

I have enjoyed Francoise singing and image since the 1960s. I was always amused that the women I dated were the first to introduce me to her work, and the exquisite androgyny of her appeal, together with the French pop sound of the 60s - a once naive and sophisticated - were a splendid combination. She has grown through the years and remains a fascinating figure.
Yes, interesting. Although I discovered Françoise without any help from another woman, my wife (now ex) was also a fan before I met her. At the time, she also had some of the looks of Françoise - that was perhaps part of the attraction.
As you say, Françoise has grown and developed through the years, and there are many fans who have admired her throughout her career. Although now, totally different to the teenager who sang Tous les garçons et les filles, for me, at least, there is still the same fascination.

I would like to thank you for this wonderful site where I (AT LONG LAST) could listen to my very favourite LP since I was a little young lass. Francoise Hardy in English. What a wonderful collection of songs one could ever hope to hear. What a shame we don't ever hear it on the radio anymore. It seems such a waste of good talent and good music and wonderful lyrics. Well done Francoise you are a Star and will always be. I just wish I could understand French then I could have enjoyed all her songs as much as the English songs. That does not change the fact that I still listen to the songs, one cannot help but enjoy her voice and music.
God bless you!
Hello Erna, thank you for your kind comments, and welcome to the site. I'm glad you enjoyed my April selection. Hopefully the music page is achieving its aim of encouraging people to not only download and listen to what is there, but to search out and buy some of Françoise's other releases.
As for understanding the French songs, if you know no French at all, it is worth taking the French text of a song from my lyrics pages and using Babelfish - http://babelfish.altavista.com/ - to translate from French into English. Never 100%, but you will certainly get a general idea of the meaning of the song.

I found out about Françoise Hardy a couple years ago when I was in college after hearing Isabelle Huppert sing a cover version of "Message personnel" for the film "Huit femmes". Now I listen to no other artist more than FH. I love her songs from all periods; she is astonishing.
"Tant de belles choses" knocks me out. It is simply the most gorgeous song I have ever heard, lyrically, vocally, and musically.
"Décalages" is stunning because of Françoise's interpretation, in a voice by turns gentle, pleading, and resigned; the atmospheric musical arrangement; and the sad, beautiful lyrics. I know of few other songs that capture a mood as exquisitely as this song. The way "Antipodes" slips tenderly from her mouth takes my breath away.
I could go on at length about "En résumé... en conclusion", "Duck's blues", "Partir quand même", and all of her other beautiful music.

Thank you for the internet. I've found here at last!
For thirty years, Francoise Hardy is surely a big name in my mind since I heard she sangs [All over the world] in my childhood. Her voice did impress me so much until now. I started to search more of her albums since then, but her records wasn't that easy to be found in Hong Kong. I'd only got a few. In 1996, I hardly bought two of Miss Hardy's collections which is the most tremendous one. I keep listening & listening to those beautiful songs till I emigrated from Hong Kong to Vancouver. Not only did I love [All over the world], but also [Ci sono cose piu grandi], [Ich Hab Pas Gluck], [Des ronds dans l'ean], [Comme] & [La maison ou jai grandi].......... Those songs are so beautiful, absorbing & undoubtedly the best in the world.
It's so fortunate tonight for me that I've also found some of Miss Hardy's quitar tabs through a quitar website. I'll try to play those songs & sings though I don't know any french word. But I'd really love to hear every songs from Miss Hardy! My feeling for her & her melody & her voice is absolutely immortality.
Miss Hardy, I'll never find another you in this whole world!

I can't believe I'm listening to one of the most evocative songs I've ever heard in my life. Whilst in Spain in 2005 and listening to Radio Gibraltar, I heard Francois singing 'All Over the The World' for the first time in so many years. Such emotions rekindled and as fresh and sweet as the first time I heard the song so long ago. FANTASTIC!
Thank You Francoise.
